HONORED VOLUNTEER

Rich Lacarie, “Richie” joined our team in April 2004 after several visits to the museum.  Richie offered to take at look at some of the vehicles that were having mechanical issues.  We were impressed with his knowledge and enthusiasm, and teamed him up with Jim “Jimbo” Monette to get several tanks and armored vehicles prepared for the “Memorial Day Parade”.  Jimbo and Richie spent several days “fine tuning” and things started rolling.  Richie continues to utilize his background working on heavy equipment and diesel engines at his full time job, while supporting our vehicles evenings and weekends. As “Vehicle Coordinator” Richie can be spotted around our outdoor display area “wedged” In a tank engine compartment or “test driving” a vehicle.  We are grateful to have this talented 43 year old “expert” on our team.  Richie joins the select group of “Honored Volunteer”, and is recognized of the plaque in our lobby.

    FAMED “HELLCAT” SPEED CONTINUES TODAY

The M-18 “Hellcat” Tank Destroyer was the fastest tracked vehicle of WWII. Capable of 65 MPH  (road conditions permitting)  this vehicle is still arguably the speediest tracked vehicle in 2005! We are happy to report, the Tank Destroyer Forces continue to be represented even today, with this race car (pictured below)  owned and operated by Billy Gertsch Jr. of  West Haven. His car sports a 3ft. diameter Tank Destroyer logo on its hood. (See photo below).  True to its heritage, this 4 wheeled “Tank Destroyer” recently won two sportsman feature races and six Sportsman qualifier races. We are proud the Tank Destroyer tradition continues.
