Events at Danbury Fair Mall
For the first time ever, the military museum has begun working with the Danbury
Mall at various public events. Sears sponsored a fundraiser called “Heros at
Home” which provides home improvements for soldiers who are overseas. To aid in the
cause, the Museum placed its M551 Sheridan tank in front of the Sears
merchandise pickup area. This effort attracted lots of attention from curious
customers and Museum fliers were distributed throughout the mall. This kind of
exposure is highly beneficial to us, since many mall shoppers have never been to
the museum and are only a mile away from a potential visit.
Flag Day Ceremony
The Danbury Mall staff invited the museum to attend their 2007 Flag Day
ceremony. The ceremony, which was held at dozens of malls simultaneously
throughout the country, is practiced annually to honor the origins of the Flag
and to salute those who serve it both today or have done so in the past. It was
not only an honor to participate in such a ceremony, but we also gained valuable
exposure at such a high-traffic location.
Sale of M39
The museum has sold one of its two WWII era M39 tractors to help pay for the M36
Jackson acquisition. The remaining M39 was recently restored to running
condition, so it made perfect sense to sell our non-running M39 to an English
collector. The new owner plans to use the vehicle’s parts to bring a Britain
based M18 Hellcat back to life!
Faith Church Display
The museum was asked to do a small display at the Faith Church in New Milford.
We set up a table and handed out fliers, and got an opportunity to expose the
museum to a more distant part of Connecticut. Needless to say, we were a big hit
and received lots of questions from curious visitors who got a chance to try on
a Vietnam era flak jacket and a PRC 25 backpack field radio.
